In the early 80's a group of Stanford University students and Alumni decided to come together out of a mutual love of jazz, aka, African - American Classical Music. The original workshop concept was a weekly session at which the friends could practice and learn the music they all loved and appreciated. As word about the Jazz Workshop got out, the members were soon being requested to perform at nightclubs, parties, social engagements and weddings for friends. A name was chosen, and thus the Potential Jazz Ensemble was born.
